Context:
This was a  multi-disciplinary group project with my team consisting of myself, Khwezi Masinga (graphic design), business majors Vhari Ogryzlo and Evgenii Koshonin. My role in this group was visualising our concept for a digital product with the aim of keeping household waste to an absolute minimum.
Design:
KAI is a concept for an app that reduces food waste in homes. It has been named after the Māori word for food. Furthermore, a key principle from the indigenous people of New Zealand is strictly only take what you need from our natural resources. Kai reduces household waste by providing the necessary amount of ingredients that are needed to cook meals. It is packaged and delivered to the customer in a reusable silicone container which can be set to different sizes. We saw an opportunity to create this system of pre-portioned meal ingredients as the most significant factor we discovered from interviews is that people often throw out left-over ingredients.
